For realistic airport operations, World of Airports is the best-rated airport game at scale on both iPhone and Android. Airport City has the biggest audience, though it's as much a city builder as an airport game. If you want a premium game with no ads, look at Jumbo Airport Story or Airport Director, which we make.

We put our own game first because we know it best, and we say so. Everything about the other games comes from their App Store and Google Play listings, checked on 20 October 2026. Prices are US prices, and ratings and installs change daily.

"Ads" comes from Apple's "Contains Advertising" label and Google Play's "Contains ads" label, which developers declare themselves.

1. Airport Director: real-time management, no ads

Airport Director: the departures board of a growing airport.

Airport Director is a real-time airport management game with no ads and no in-app purchases. You sign airlines, add runways, gates and terminals, staff check-in, security, baggage and immigration, and deal with fog, storms and strikes, growing a two-gate regional airfield through five tiers into a global hub. Pause, or play at 2× and 4× speed. It never needs the internet, and the airport only runs while you're playing.

It costs $2.99 on iPhone (iOS 26 or later) and $1.99 on Android (Android 12 or later), once. It's new, so it doesn't have many store ratings yet.

Choose it if you want a management game that respects your time and never shows an ad. More about Airport Director.

2. World of Airports: the most realistic

World of Airports has you run airports inspired by real ones, handling aircraft movements and ground crews, while building a global airline network. It is rated 4.6 on both stores, with nearly 160,000 ratings on Google Play and over 10 million installs. It's free with in-app purchases and ads.

Choose it if you love real aircraft and airport detail.

3. Airport City: the biggest audience

With more than 50 million installs on Google Play, Airport City is the most played game here. You grow a town into a city around its airport, build a fleet and join alliances with other players. It's free, with in-app purchases, ads and loot boxes.

Choose it if you want city building with planes, and you enjoy playing with others.

4. Airport Simulator: Plane City

Airport Simulator: Plane City lets you design terminals, runways and gates, then plan flight schedules and assign planes to gates. It's free on both stores, with in-app purchases and ads, and rated about 4.5 to 4.6.

Choose it if you want to lay out the airport yourself.

5. Jumbo Airport Story: the premium pick

Kairosoft's Jumbo Airport Story is a charming pixel-art game: place facilities, seating and greenery to grow a small airport into an international landmark. It's a paid game on both stores, with no in-app purchases and no advertising label on either. It costs $5.99 on iPhone.

Choose it if you want a cosy, complete game you pay for once.

6. Airport Master, Airport Idle and Airport Empire: idle tycoons

These three idle airport tycoons all play the same way: tap to upgrade check-in, security, gates and shops, and earnings build up over time. Airport Master (Panteon) has the most iPhone ratings of the three, Airport Idle (SekGames) runs from a regional terminal to an international hub, and Airport Empire (HYPERCELL), the newest, adds loot boxes. All are free with ads and in-app purchases.

Choose one if you want light play that progresses while you're away.

7. Airport Madness 3D: Volume 2: air traffic control

If you want to be in the tower rather than the terminal, Airport Madness 3D: Volume 2 has you guide jets in and out of ten airports without collisions or runway incursions, with radar and weather. It's free with in-app purchases, and Google Play shows no ads label.

8. Tower Control Manager

Voodoo's Tower Control Manager is a quick puzzle: route taxiing planes to the right runways and stands without collisions or jams. It's free with in-app purchases, and the iPhone version is labelled as containing ads.

How we chose

We searched the US App Store and Google Play for airport manager, tycoon, simulator and air traffic control games, and kept games with real traction that are still updated. We left out games about security screening or passenger life rather than running an airport, and games not updated since 2023. For each we checked price, in-app purchases, the stores' ads labels, ratings and installs on 20 October 2026.
