What you do in Oil Director

Sign the licence
Pick blocks from each country's licensing round, sign, then survey: you have a year to start drilling. Seismic narrows the reserve estimate. The exploration well is the big gamble: a discovery, or a dry hole and the money gone.
Every barrel counts
Every field declines from its first day. Workovers, well upgrades, infill drilling and enhanced recovery fight the curve. Late-life fields go cash-negative: shut them in, or plug them and hand them back.
Move it to market
Trucks, pipelines, storage tanks and export terminals. When the tanks fill, the wells choke. Hold barrels through a dip and sell into a spike.
Play the market
You don't set the price. It swings from glut to crisis. Read the outlook, lock in offtake contracts with refiners and traders, and keep your delivery grades up.
Go global
Seventeen countries, each with its own crude grade, royalty, tax and risks, from the North Sea to the Gulf of Mexico. Your choice of home country sets the difficulty.
Mind the money

About Oil Director

You start with one tired lease, two old wells and $3 million, in Texas, Alberta or Oman. Everything else you build.

Oil Director runs in real time. The price ticker moves, the wells pump and the barrels flow. Pause, or play at 2× and 4× speed. Each month ends with a report: production, realised price, revenue, royalty and tax, reserves, contract grades and the price outlook.

Two things keep every decision honest. Depletion means standing still is shrinking, so exploration never stops mattering. And the price is set by the market, not by you: a boom makes everything look clever, and a bust finds out who borrowed too much.

Expand country by country, each with its own geology, fiscal terms and politics, and climb from Wildcatter to Independent, Regional Producer, International and finally Supermajor.

Does Oil Director have ads?

No. There are no ads of any kind, and no watching videos for rewards.

Can I play Oil Director offline?

Yes. The game never connects to the internet, so it plays anywhere.

Does my company keep running when I close the app?

No. There is no offline progress. The company only runs while you are playing, so nothing goes wrong while you are away.

Which devices does it run on?

Oil Director is on iPhone (iOS 26 or later) from the App Store, and on Android phones (Android 12 or later) from Google Play. Each store sells its own version, so buy it on the platform you play on.

Is it realistic?

It is a game first, but it is built on how the industry works: reserve ranges that narrow as you survey, fields that decline, royalties and profit tax by country, storage that fills up, and a price you cannot control.

Are the companies real?

No. Every company, buyer and field in the game is fictional. Countries are real places, but events are generic and are not about any real government.

What data does the game collect?

None. Oil Director has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your saves stay on your phone. The privacy policy has the details.
