Plenty of oil tycoon games are idle games, built around ads and timers. Oil Director is an oil company simulator instead: a real oil business game. You run the whole company, from geoscience to the bank, and the only thing that grows your oil empire is the decisions you make.
The whole company, on one screen at a time
| Part of the business | What you decide |
|---|---|
| Exploration | Which licences to sign, what to survey, where to drill |
| Production | How many wells, when to repair, upgrade, shut in or plug |
| Midstream | Tanks, trucks, pipelines and export terminals |
| Trading | Spot sales, floating contracts, fixed-price deals, storing for a spike |
| People | Six departments to hire, train and pay |
| Finance | Loans, maintenance budget, profit tax |
| Research | 16 technologies, from seismic imaging to Arctic operations |
| Expansion | Offices in 17 countries, each with its own terms and risks |

A market you don't control
The oil price moves on its own, through five moods from Glut (around $34) to Supply crisis (around $125). You can buy an analyst outlook for the next three months, which is right three times out of four. Then decide: sell now, store for later, or lock in a fixed price with a refiner or trader.
Buyers grade every month's deliveries from A to D. Keep your promises and the premiums rise. Miss them and you pay penalties, then lose the buyer.
Five tiers to Supermajor
| Tier | Production you need | Reputation you need |
|---|---|---|
| Wildcatter | Where everyone starts | – |
| Independent | 1,200 barrels a day | 42 |
| Regional Producer | 8,000 barrels a day | 55 |
| International | 40,000 barrels a day | 68 |
| Supermajor | 150,000 barrels a day | 80 |
Each tier also needs reserves, contracts and, from Regional Producer up, operations in more countries. Each one brings an extra rig, bigger loans, new buyers and new countries.
Choose your home
Start in Texas (easy), Alberta or Oman. Each has its own crude, royalty, tax and geology, and the choice sets the difficulty. Our beginner's guide compares them.
No ads, no in-app purchases
There is nothing to buy inside Oil Director and nothing to watch. No ads, no energy, no timers, no premium currency. It plays offline, collects no data, and saves your companies on your phone. It needs iOS 26 or later on iPhone, or Android 12 or later.
Frequently asked
How realistic is it? It simplifies, but it is built on how the business really works: royalties and profit tax by country, crude grades and differentials, decline curves, the cost of moving barrels and contracts with delivery terms.
How long does it take to play? A game month takes about eight minutes at normal speed, and two at 4×. The climb to Supermajor takes many in-game years.
How do I make money? Low costs per barrel, contracts you keep and a pipeline once the volume is there. Read how to make money in Oil Director.
