Oil Director never touches the internet. There are no accounts, no servers, no ads to load and no daily log-in rewards. Play on a plane, in a tunnel or out of signal, and your company is exactly where you left it.
Drilling, done properly
Drilling in Oil Director isn't tapping a rig for coins. Every well is a decision with real money behind it.
- Sign a licence for a block, with its terrain, reserve estimate and odds of oil.
- Survey it with 2D or 3D seismic to narrow the estimate and sharpen the odds.
- Drill the exploration well. Strike oil and the field comes on stream at once. Hit a dry hole and the money's gone.
- Develop the field with more wells. They share the same oil, so more wells pump it faster rather than finding more.
- Fight the decline. Every well wears and every field declines from day one. Workovers, upgrades and enhanced recovery slow it down.
Our guide to finding oil has the costs and odds for every step.

Six terrains
| Terrain | What it's like |
|---|---|
| Onshore | Cheap wells, steady output, about 28% decline a year |
| Shale | Strong new wells that lose over half their output in a year |
| Oil sands | Slow wells that barely decline; heavy crude sells at a discount |
| Shallow water | $9 million exploration wells that pump 2,400 barrels a day |
| Deepwater | $45 million wells, 11,000 barrels a day |
| Arctic | The last frontier, opened by the most expensive research in the game |
Get the oil to market
A barrel in the tank isn't money until it's sold. Build tank farms, truck fleets, pipelines and export terminals. When the tanks fill and the trucks can't keep up, the wells choke and the oil stays in the ground.

Frequently asked
Is it an idle or clicker game? No. Nothing happens while the app is closed, and nothing earns money for you to collect. Each decision costs something and each month ends with a report on what it earned.
Is it hard? Your home country sets the difficulty. Texas is the easy start with light, full-price crude. Alberta and Oman are harder. The beginner's guide walks you through your first year.
Can I lose? There's no game over, but there's no safety net either. An overdraft costs 25% a year and drags your reputation down.
